“Deep within man dwell these slumbering powers; powers that would astonish him… forces that would revolutionize his life if aroused and put into action.” ~Orison Swett Marden

It is amazing the power within a person. In 1977, in Tallahassee, Florida, a 63 year old grandmother picked up the back end of a Buick to save her grandson because the car was on his arm. Before that, she had never lifted anything heavier than a 50 pound bag of pet food.

She said, “If I was able to do this when I didn’t think I could, what does that say about the rest of my life? Have I wasted it?”

With that in mind, at 63 she went back to college and earned a degree in geology and later taught at a junior college.

It is amazing what you can do if you have the right attitude, if you have faith. This is a story about lifting a heavy car, but I have read countless stories about people who did all kinds of amazing things that they previously didn’t think they could do. What can you do that you don’t yet have the faith to do?

It amazes me how few people set a goal to become a vice president or higher in their company. Our company of 10,000 people has at least two dozen vice presidents and probably several times that many high level directors. But very few people have the dream to do rise that high. They just assume they will work slowly up the ranks and maybe at best be a manager when they retire.

The vast majority of people don’t think they will ever get out of debt and become financially secure enough to retire early. Some people dream of it and make it happen. Some make so much money that they can help thousands of people in many different ways.

Jesus said that nothing will be impossible for a person who has strong faith. Matthew 17:20 In fact Jesus said the same thing over two dozen times in various places throughout the four Gospels. Many people read those words, but few believe them. Most of us are like the people that Moses led out of Egypt, they didn’t have the faith to fight for the land and wealth God promised them.

But how does a person cultivate this kind of faith? How long does it take? Well, the 12 apostles were with Jesus for almost three years. They didn’t seem to believe that they could do the amazing things Jesus could do for at least the first two years. At some point Jesus sent them, along with many others, out to do what he had been doing. They were amazed at the power they had from God.

Here are some ways to strengthen your faith.

F  Find a Bible verse to repeat out loud a few times a day. It will be an affirmation.
A Ask God for it (or ask other people)
I Imagine the answer, imagine you have already recieved what you prayed for
T Thank God for it
H Hold on to your faith and be Happy while you wait

1. Faith. Have faith when you pray and Find a Bible verse to stand on. There is probably a verse in the Bible for anything and everything you want to pray for. If you can’t find one, ask me for help finding it. Or go to and do a word search for the word or promise for which you need. For example, if you want to get out of debt, type in “prosper” and find some promises. You might be very surprised what you find! For example:

Joshua 1:8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

1 Kings 2:3 …and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.

Psalm 1:3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
