When bad things happen…be happy

A wise old man lived on the northern frontier of China. One day his horse ran away to the nomads across the border. Everyone tried to console him, but he said, “What makes you so sure this isn’t a blessing?” Some months later his horse returned, bringing a splendid nomad stallion. Everyone congratulated him, but he said, “What makes you so sure this isn’t a disaster?” Their household was richer by a fine horse, which his son loved to ride. One day as his son rode the spirited stallion, it bucked and he fell and broke his arm. Everyone tried to console him, but his father said, “What makes you so sure this isn’t a blessing?”

A month later the army came to recruit men for war, and every able-bodied man took his bow and went into battle. The army did not take the son with the broken arm, due to his inability to fight in that condition. The army lost nine of every ten men. Only because the son was injured did the father and son survive to take care of each other.

Some things that seem to be bad events are actually good, designed to protect you from something much worse in the future, or brought about to make you stronger so that you can enjoy life to the fullest.

Romans 8:28 says that all things work together for good to those who love God…
This means that you can be sure nothing ultimately bad will ever happen to you. Oh sure, things will happen that seem like bad things, but they are actually blessings in disguise. And some of the “good” things that you miss out on and really wish you could have, those might actually be bad things that will bring about problems.

You can create a beautiful, happy life. It takes an attitude adjustment. Don’t be conformed to the world but be transformed by renewing your mind (changing the way you think). Then you can have abundant joy every day of your life. Even when something sad happens and you experience sorrow, there can still be an underlying joy lifting you up, protecting you from hopelessness. People who have no joy risk serious depression when “bad” things happen in their life. Everyone will have sorrows, but some move quickly from sorrow to happiness. Others have a very hard time getting out of sadness because they don’t have the right training and attitude.
