The Magic of Believing

hugQuotes from the first couple of pages of The Magic of Believing by Claude Bristol:

“Is there some force, or factor, or power, or science—call it what you will—which a few people understand and use to overcome their difficulties and achieve outstanding success? I firmly believe that there is, and it is my purpose in this book to try to explain it so that you can use it if you desire.”

Around 1933, the financial editor of a great Los Angeles newspaper attended Claude Bristol’s lectures and wrote: “You have caught from the ether something that has a mystical quality  – a something that explains the magic of coincidence, the mystery of what makes men lucky.”

Bristol goes on to say:

“Years ago, when I started to teach this science by means of lectures and brochures, I wasn’t sure that the concepts could be grasped by the ordinary individual. But since then, I have seen those who have used it to double and triple their incomes, build their own successful businesses, acquire homes of their dreams and create sizable fortunes. I am now convinced that any intelligent person who is sincere with themselves can reach any heights they truly and honestly desire.”

Bristol is talking about believing that you can do anything you set your mind to do. If a person really believes he can do something, and is enthusiastic about working for his or her dream, magic will happen. What is your idea of success? Does it mean success in relationships, career, helping others, leaving a legacy, wealth? W. Clement Stone said “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” Jesus said the same thing: Matthew 21:22 “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” The problem is most people don’t want to wait for the answer to prayer and most people’s faith wavers if they don’t get what they want right away. See James 1:6,7 which says if your faith wavers you won’t get what you pray for. How do you build your faith every day so that you can get what you believe for? Well, that is what my book is about and it is much too long to discuss here. See my ebook for more information. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008EOCODK

I often talk to people who don’t bother to build their faith at all, then wonder why they don’t get answers to prayers. Some even get mad at God. If you get mad at God, it almost always means you didn’t have prayer-faith to begin with.

Just about everyone agrees that you must take action to achieve your dreams. Here are some steps I posted a month ago:

  • Decide what you want in life (What would you do with your life if you knew you couldn’t fail )
  • Think about what you do well
  • Clarify your values
  • Set goals (don’t be afraid to set high goals)
  • Believe you can reach your goals
  • Find other people to work with
  • Be disciplined and persistent
  • Enjoy your work, work hard
  • Never, never, never give up
