Leaders are Readers

Hours of TV watched per week for the typical  American factory  worker (but I’m sure in general the trend is true for everyone):
Assembly line 30 hours per week
person in charge of assembly line 25 hours per week
Foreman (in charge of an area of a building/plant) 20 hours per week
Plant superintendent (in charge of a plant) 12-15 hours per week
President 8-12 hours per week
Chairman 4-8 hours and 50% of it is training videos

The more responsibility the person has, the less time they spend watching TV. One self-made millionaire said that he was encouraged to watch one hour less every day and read instead. He did and now he is rich and famous. Of course he did a lot more than just read, but that is what started it all.

If you are reading this it means that you read more than the average person. It really is true: leaders are readers. Many people read less than one book per year. If you buy a book on CD and listen to it on your drive to work and home, you will probably listen to 4 books per month, which can put you in the top percentage of people in the world. If you read/listen to books that teach you how to live your life better or do you job better, you will acquire knowledge that, if put into practice will dramatically change your life.

Statistics show that 27% of the people in the US did not read a book last year. The Washington Post says:

Who are the 27 percent of people the AP-Ipsos poll found hadn’t read a single book this year? Nearly a third of men and a quarter of women fit that category. They tend to be older, less educated, lower income … and less religious. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/21/AR2007082101045.html

Interesting that people who read less make less money. I guess it is not surprising.

Another idea: 97% want better relationships with family but very few people spend time reading and planning how to improve those relationships.

I love the change in seasnos! Here in the panhandle of Florida, we have summer for way too long- sometimes even into late October. This year, we are cooling off already- feels great (for now) but the best part of October for this chick is BOOTS!! I love, love, love boots.

How is it that just anyone can write a weoblg and get as popular as this? Its not like youve said anything incredibly impressive more like youve painted a quite picture above an issue that you know nothing about! I dont want to sound mean, here. But do you actually think that you can get away with adding some quite pictures and not seriously say something?

Nice post, interesting. One day I decided to get rid of the TV and I still don’t miss it.

You mean I don’t have to pay for expert advice like this aonymre?!

Definitely imagine that which you said. Your fairovte justification appeared to be at the internet the simplest factor to have in mind of. I say to you, I definitely get irked even as people think about worries that they plainly do not recognize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and outlined out the entire thing without having side-effects , other folks can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks!

I rarely have time to watch TV. I’d rather go out with friends and have interesting conversations or read something or work towards my goals in life. TV watching is very rarely on my list.

knowledge is power, it is often said.

Your last line on people wanting better relationships but nit being ready to work for them, is so true. I find it immensely amusing, perhaps it is the media, the movies and the sitcoms which feed our imaginations that true love and the happily ever afters happen just like that- with the flick of a wand and everything is rainbows and butterflies. And also about families, you are born into a perfect family and there is absolutely no way you can better your family relations… are you are an introvert or a control freak – blame it on your parents?!

But thankfully it is not so, everything can be changed just by taking some interest and working towards it, want a perfect relationship – don’t take it for granted. Want to a good family – call up your parents once in a while or go visit them. Want it good with the boss – work hard and stop gossiping. etc etc…

Howdy! I understand this is kind of off-topic hweover I had to ask. Does operating a well-established website such as yours require a large amount of work? I’m completely new to blogging hweover I do write in my diary daily. I’d like to start a blog so I can easily share my personal experience and views online. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or tips for brand new aspiring bloggers. Thankyou!

I completely agree. The image portrayed in movies and media is that things come easily and without a lot of work. If a famous actor is interviewed they never usually say how much work it took to get there. Somehow that part is skipped. People who are successful are highly focused on their goals and work hard and they enjoy working hard. Anything worthwhile takes effort. And most people are not willing to admit that.

the luckiest are those who work the hardest…

        rightly said :)

Thanks for your advice on this blog. One thing I would chosoe to say is the fact that purchasing electronics items through the Internet is not new. In reality, in the past ten years alone, the marketplace for online gadgets has grown considerably. Today, you can get practically any type of electronic gizmo and gizmo on the Internet, including cameras in addition to camcorders to computer pieces and video games consoles.
